Children face challenging situations every day at home, at school, online, and in their communities. Sometimes, adults are aware of these issues. Often, they are not. KIDPOWER teaches children positive, practical, and effective ways to think, move, and speak to stay safe in challenging personal safety situations. Working with children and trying to see the world through their eyes informs everything we do. We will be using KIDPOWER to reinforce Erin's Law and promoting the message of personal safety. Students will take part in KIDPOWER during P.E. classes, the week of Feb 8, 2016.

1. Each day in physical education class, STUDENTS CAN receive 5 points for:
*having their gym shoes on and tied *walking into the gym *jogging/stretches 2. STUDENTS CAN have points taken away for: *not wearing gym shoes to class *not following directions *talking when they should be listening *not keeping their hands/feet to themselves *arguing *having a negative attitude *not choosing KIND *not participating (sitting out due to negative behaviors) 3. Extra poinst may be added for: *helping others without being asked *having a positive attitude During our double classes, students have been eagerly working on a Fitness Scavenger Hunt. Each student works with a partner to complete the scavenger hunt. Students are given a worksheet with a segmented star. Each section of the star has an exercise that the students must complete. Once the exercise is completed, one student reports to the stage and colors that segment according to the color guide. This will take us several days to complete. Once the classes are complete, we will post them for everyone to see.
I Can...
Wear my gym shoes to class. Walk into the gym, sit in my squad and wait quietly for the teacher to begin. Keep food and drinks out of the gym. Stop--Drop--Listen when the whistle blows. Keep my hands and feet to myself. Arrive on time. Choose kind. |
